Day 59 / 168 Week 10 of 28 Phase 2: Logical Reasoning Deep Dive

Parallel Flaw

Parallel Flaw

Combines Flaw and Parallel Reasoning: the stimulus contains a specific flaw, and the correct answer commits the same flaw in an unrelated context.

1. Name the Flaw First

Use the Day 20-26 vocabulary to identify the specific flaw before scanning choices — this turns a five-way structural comparison into a much faster single-feature search.

2. Structure Still Matters

The correct choice needs both the same flaw type and, usually, a similar argument shape — a coincidental flaw match with a very different structure is usually a trap.

Practice items on this page are curriculum-authored in LSAT style; they are not official LSAC questions. Real drilling happens on LawHub — see the assignment below.

Q1. Stimulus: "This medication reduced symptoms in the trial, so it will be approved" (assumes trial results guarantee approval — a necessary-vs-sufficient flaw). Which choice shares this flaw?

A. This runner won the qualifying race, so she will win the championship.
B. This candidate scored highest on the entrance exam, so she will automatically be admitted to the program.
C. This bridge passed the stress test, so it is safe to open.
D. This crop grew well in the trial plot, so it will grow well everywhere.
Correct answer: B. Both treat a necessary-seeming indicator (a great exam score, a good trial result) as if it were sufficient to guarantee the outcome (admission, approval), skipping other required conditions.

Saturday closes Week 10: Principle and Parallel side by side, the last "matching" family before harder mixed drilling begins.
