RC Maintenance: Detail Questions
Detail (Specific-Reference) questions are the most literal RC task: find the answer that matches something the passage explicitly states. The skill isn't cleverness — it's efficient, accurate re-location.
1. Use Your Passage Map
This is exactly why Day 10's paragraph-function tags matter: a Detail question tells you roughly which paragraph to search, and the map gets you there fast instead of re-reading from the top.
2. Exact Match, Not Paraphrase-Adjacent
Detail answers must be directly supported by explicit text, not a reasonable-sounding inference — that's the line between a Detail question and an Inference question.
3. Common Traps
An answer that's true of a different part of the passage than what's referenced; an answer that reverses a stated relationship; an answer that adds a qualifier the passage doesn't include.
